Christmas and gifts
Christmas is really all about love, generosity and giving. All people around the globe on Christmas time are giving gifts to each other. In a miraculous way people are developed in their hearts this spirit of loving, helping and giving. Of course at all times there also will be "Scrooges" with sorrowful, unhappy and unsatisfied hearts who hopefully at the end will experience the light and happiness of freedom from their inner burdens. Let pray for them.
But what is this spirit of giving? Why is it we love so much to give? It is because God gave us, I think; and He gave us first. Even if we did not call on Him or asked anything, God gave us total forgiveness in Jesus. And so, I think the spirit of giving we all have inherited from God. And everything what He has given to us, He has given generously. Every good and perfect gift is from our heavenly Father. Without Him we even would not exist. He gave life to us and the air to breathe. He gave up for us His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life. (John 3:16). Without this special and incredible gift we would be still alive physically but lost and doomed to distraction, and dead in our sins and transgressions. God gave us first, because He loves us so much! For that reason we give gifts, with cheerful hearts, to each other on Christmas, and not only on Christmas time but any time, when we see our brother in need. When we give we give without any grudging, but with right attitude. Important thing is also that when we give, when we love those around us, help the needy etc. we teach our children to be a generous, kind and loving persons, and those qualities definitely will be of great value in their later life.
In conclusion. Christmas gifts are just a manifestation of who human beings really are. Human beings are created in the image and likeness of god (Genesis 1:27); human beings are created to love, to help, to encourage etc. And God commands us to love others, even unlovables, not only on this time of year, but all the time. The Old Testament and the New Testament are about God who loves His people and the greatest His wish is may we love Him, and our neighbour as ourselves. May we give to others ourselves as He gave Himself to us and for us. He gave us first and we must give Him back what belongs to Him.
He gave Himself for our sins... Galatians 1:4; 1 Timothy 2:6; Matthew 20:28; Titus 2:14.
And if He gave so much to us, we give good gifts to others. Somehow in marvellous ways this command of God to help and give good things to others, has been kept on Christmas time the most.
God bless everyone who hears the Words of Him! God bless you and your families! God bless all your works! God bless all who do His will! Amen.
