You shall not murder!
Exodus 20:13; Deuteronomy 5:17.
This Commandment reminds us to love others by not taking their lives. God is giver of life and only God can decide to take it away or leave it. Every human's life is precious. God made humans in His own image and likeness. When person comes to the point where He starts to seek God and by finding Him accepts His condition, than God starts create His own character in that person. Nothing in this world is created in the image of God except human and God alone possesses human's life.
Although in this world there are killing without mercy, killing out of blind hatred and absolute indifference and ignorance to the Word of God; there are constant manslaughter and accidents because of carelessness or by somebody's created circumstances; there are people who slaughter others in the name of god and think they are doing right thing and that is absolutely opposite what God has said. Absolute opposite to God's character and His Commandment - love each other and "you shall not murder."Jesus Himself told us that such things will happen.
"... in fact, the time is coming when anyone who kills you will think they are offering a service to God." (John 16:2).
But all of us must know that "if a man takes the life of any human being, he shall surely be put to death." (Leviticus 24:17).
God teaches us to love one another and be merciful as He is. God is merciful to all sinners and forgives our offenses to Him and to others if we come to Him through His Son Jesus because that is the only way how we are able or allowed to approach the Creator of heaven and earth - GOD.
Jesus said it very clearly - "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." (John 14:6).
But not only we kill physically, we kill with our words what comes out of our mouth.
"You have heard that the ancients were told, 'YOU SHALL NOT COMMIT MURDER ' and 'Whoever commits murder shall be liable to the court. But I (Jesus) say to you that everyone who is angry with his brother shall be guilty before the court; and whoever says to his brother, 'You good-for-nothing,' shall be guilty before the supreme court; and whoever says, 'You fool,' shall be guilty enough to go into the fiery hell." (Matthew 5:21-22).
"Anyone who hates a brother or sister is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life residing in him." (1 John 3:15).
I think just these couple verses are a considerable warnings to consider the attitudes of our hearts. We often judge others how wrong and bad they are, but do we ourselves keep Jesus commandment to love each other and kill not our own spouse, child, friend and so on, with the words of our mouth?"Anyone who claims to be in the light but hates a brother or sister is still in the darkness." (1 John 2:9).
God commands us not only to honour human's life physically, He commands also not to harm any human being maliciously in word or deed. Love each other and forgive others!
" For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through Him." John 3:17).
Without His Son we are a murderers, thieves and all the other sinful things whatever there may be. Without Him we are murderers by nature and we are not capable to do even one good thing. We do murder in our hearts daily by insulting, offending and injuring other people's hearts. We murder because of total ignorance about our heart's condition, for our hearts are full with deceit and malice.
"... The hearts of people, moreover, are full of evil and there is madness in their hearts while they live, and afterward they join the dead." (Ecclesiastes 9:3; Jeremiah 17:9)." The heart, the conscience of man, in his corrupt and fallen state, is deceitful above all things. It calls evil good, and good evil; and cries peace to those to whom it does not belong. Herein the heart is desperately wicked; it is deadly, it is desperate. The case is bad indeed, if the conscience, which should set right the errors of other faculties, is a leader in the delusion. We cannot know our own hearts, nor what they will do in an hour of temptation. Who can understand his errors?" (Matthew Henry Commentary on Jeremiah 17:9-11).
" For it is from within, out of a person's heart, that evil thoughts come--sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, greed, malice, deceit, lewdness, envy, slander, arrogance and folly." (Mark 7:21-22)
"You shall not murder." Murder is sin. Sin is revolt against God. Keep your tongue from evil and your lips from telling lies; honour your brother and sister.
"Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind'; and, '"ove your neighbor as yourself." (Luke 10:27) and you will fulfill these one and all the other commandments.
