Do not lie!

Ninth Commandment.

You shall not bear false witness against your neighbour. Exodus 20:16; Deuteronomy 5:20.

God's doctrine is to love one another. If we maintain love to others than we should not deceive them or lie to them. God wants us to be honest towards each others and towards Him.
The most important thing in all life's aspects - starting with the single person, family and finishing with the government - is the HONESTY.

Just for record some types of lying are - big lie, small lie, polite lie, noble lie, white lie, barefaced lie, pretension, fabrication, exaggeration, minimization, denial, perjury, puffery, half truth, political lie, misleading, Restructuring—distorting the context, Omission – leaving out relevant information, broken promises, compulsive lying, lying for self - protection, gossip, artificiality...

We live in a lying world. Is it possible to live without lying? Was it ever possible in human history to live and lie not?

More or less all people have lied and will lie for countless reasons. Sometimes lying person are able to get away with it but however that may be, I believe that any lie - even that of pretension - have some negative affect on our personality. Sometimes we lie to protect ourselves and if that is the reason than God is saying that guilty will be held that through whom we sinned.

"Woe to the world because of the things that cause people to stumble! Such things must come, but woe to the person through whom they come!" (Matthew 18:7).

God can not tolerate any of lies? God can not accept and can be pleased with neither small lies or lies on behalf of something? Sin is sin and sin always must to be punished.
Can we lie to God and to get off scot-free? Absolutely not. God is holy and He commands us to be holy. (1 Peter 1:15; 1 Thessalonians 4:7). We can try to be untrue to Him but sooner or later He will prove us to be liars. Lord our God detests lying lips and He hates lying tongue. Proverbs 12:22; Proverbs 6:17.

He says we must live holy; pray and worship Him in truth for He is a God of Truth. (John 4:24).
Jesus said that the Word of our God the Father is TRUTH (John 17:17) and in the truth there is no lie at all. God never lies (Numbers 23:19) and His Word is flawless and trustworthy. (Psalm 18:30; Psalm 33:4; Deuteronomy 32:4; Psalm 12:6; Proverbs 30:5).

If we look around us, we see lying, deception, fraudulence, cheat and so on. I must say that the words in Jeremiah's book 7:28 is true -

"...truth has perished; it has vanished from people lips."

Isaiah says words which exactly fit in our present age - there is

"rebellion and treachery against the LORD, turning our backs on our God, inciting revolt and oppression, uttering lies our hearts have conceived. So justice is driven back, and righteousness stands at a distance; truth has stumbled in the streets, honesty cannot enter. Truth is nowhere to be found, and whoever shuns evil becomes a prey." (Isaiah 59:13-15).

and "no one calls for justice; no one pleads a case with integrity. They rely on empty arguments, they utter lies; they conceive trouble and give birth to evil." (Isaiah 59:4).

Is there truth and justice to be found anywhere in this world...?

Living according to the world's deceptiveness people not knowingly maintain lies. From childhood they are learned the lies and do input them into their relationships so that divorce, cheating and broken lives are a normal fact of life; for ages throughout the generations lies are spread all around and deceived humanity in many areas of life - personal, social, religious, political... Lies are everywhere. Lies in society are accepted as normal fact and everybody are happy with that.

World are sucked into the lies and we all are tempted to lie.
We all must pray daily, may each and every one of us be delivered from lying lips as David did - "Save me, LORD, from lying lips and from deceitful tongues." (Psalm 120:1).

We all must pray daily may God set a guard over our mouth, may He keep watch over the doors of our lips for it is not easy in this world to follow God's instructions, and lie not.

Whole world lies in the power of the evil one (1 John 5:19) and what can we do in such a corrupt world to keep the command of God and never lie? Even in the times of Bible people lied to man and to God. How can we keep ourselves from lying?
It is possible only with the help of God the Father through our Redeemer and Saviour Jesus Christ by His good Holy Spirit. God understands our fallen state and inability to do any good, and if we understand our weaknesses and the work of the Holy Spirit in us, we should be able to live godly by asking God daily to help us, and protect from every evil one. (Hebrews 4:16).

For it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill His good purpose. (Philippians 2:13). So, even do not think that you can be good on your own without His help. We are week and in great need for help from our heavenly Father through Jesus Christ. Jesus now is seated at the right hand of God the Father and intercedes for us (Hebrews 4:14) and our duty is to trust Him to rescue us and help in every time of need.

Now all those who are the church of Christ must represent the TRUTH for they themselves are "the truth." (2.Peter 2:2). All those who are the people of God, His true church, are the servants of the living and true God, and are the light of the world. (Matthew 5:14).

Paul the church of the living God calls the pillar and foundation of the truth. (1 Timothy 3:15).

Therefore, brothers and sisters, since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way opened for us through the curtain, that is, His body, and since we have a great Priest over the house of God, let us draw near to God with a sincere heart and with the full assurance that faith brings, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for He who promised is faithful. And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds...(Hebrews 10:19-24).

To live not religiously but right (godly) we all must come to Jesus for only through Him and by Him we can be enabled to love God and our neighbour; and to be true to one another. Without Him we already are lost and doomed to destruction.

If we confess that we are Christians and believe in Jesus than we must do what He says and rely on every Word of Him otherwise we are just a liars. We must do all what He commands and bear not false testimony against nobody. We must not lie to our brother but instead rely on God to show us the way and the truth.

In Matthew Henry's Commentary we read -
"The ninth commandment concerns our own and our neighbour's good name. This forbids speaking falsely on any matter, lying, equivocating, and any way devising or designing to deceive our neighbour. Speaking unjustly against our neighbour, to hurt his reputation. Bearing false witness against him, or in common conversation slandering, backbiting, and tale-bearing; making what is done amiss, worse than it is, and in any way endeavouring to raise our reputation upon the ruin of our neighbour's. How much this command is every day broken among persons of all ranks!"

So, I and you must grow in knowledge in order to forsake any form of lies and live by the truth "so that we may become blameless and pure, "children of God without fault in a warped and crooked generation." Then we will shine among them (the world) like stars in the sky." (Philippians 2:15).

"Grace and peace be yours in abundance through the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord." (2 Peter 1:2).
